We support experimental-aircraft development and applications for EMS, under-served-rural-communities, native-Americans, border-patrol, forestry-management, educational purposes, etc. (After initially incorporating in KY to form a single 501(c)(3), we dissolved that entity for a simplified form creating two entirely self-financed, private-philanthropies. A Vanguard National Trust account has been setup for each making annual-grants for specific experimental-aviation-related projects in conjunction with the Experimental Aircraft Assoc. Foundation [EAA] in Oshkosh, WI., the eVTOL organization, San Diego Air & Space Museum and similar organizations. Elizabeth Dunn is my Estate Administrator & Executor.

How did the landmark rock in the Bird Rock community of La Jolla CA get its name?

The landmark-rock in our Bird Rock community of La Jolla, California, got its name due to its distinctive appearance on 16th Century Spanish sailing charts. The rock formation previously resembled the shape of a bird, prior to its partial destruction during a storm a few years ago, particularly from certain angles, leading to the name "Bird Rock" on early Spanish sailing charts in the 16th (?) century. This natural coastal feature is not only a notable geological formation but also serves as a navigational-point and a cultural-landmark within our community.

Historical Context and Community Significance:

  1.    Appearance: The name "Bird Rock" is derived from the rock's shape, which is reminiscent of a bird perched by the sea. This resemblance is most-notable when viewed from specific perspectives along the shoreline.
  2.    Local Legend and Cultural Heritage: Our rock has been a significant part of the local landscape and is a well-known feature in the La Jolla area. Over the years, it has become an emblematic symbol for our Bird Rock community.
  3.    Surfing and Recreation: Bird Rock is also a popular spot for surfers and divers, adding to its local fame and usage. The area's coastal conditions and unique underwater topography make it a favorite among water-sports enthusiasts.
  4.    Neighborhood Identity: The rock's name has been adopted by the surrounding neighborhood, further embedding it into the local culture and identity. The Bird Rock community in La Jolla is now recognized not just for its scenic coastline but also for this distinctive natural feature.

Our rock's distinctive shape and the name "Bird Rock" have been documented in various local histories and tourist guides, emphasizing its importance as a natural landmark in La Jolla. By understanding the visual and cultural significance of Bird Rock, one can appreciate why this natural feature has become such an integral part of the community's identity. The combination of its bird-like appearance and its role in local recreation underscores its lasting impact on the area.
